An auto-lock bottom box does not need to be assembled. It needs to be opened. The base is pre-scored at the factory with fold lines held under tension, so when the packer pulls the flat box open, the base panels spring into a locked position without any deliberate folding action, tape, or glue. What Does a Faster Box Assembly Actually Save on a Packing Line?

At 500 units packed per shift, a 1 second saving per box is 8 minutes of packing time recovered. At 2,000 units per shift the same saving is 33 minutes. Neither figure sounds dramatic in isolation, but across a five-day week it accumulates into meaningful labour time that can be redirected or eliminated entirely. Auto-lock bottom boxes are the closure format where this arithmetic most clearly favours the packaging choice, because the assembly step is removed rather than shortened. Tuck and snap lock bases still require deliberate action per unit. Auto-lock does not. 

Can an Auto Lock Bottom Box Be Collapsed Back to Flat After It Has Been Assembled?

No, and this is intentional. The spring tension in the pre-scored base panels releases permanently when the box is opened. Once erected, the base will not fold flat again without damaging the score lines, which means auto-lock boxes are a one-way format suited to operations where every box is filled immediately after erection. If your packing workflow involves assembling boxes ahead of filling, or storing partially assembled boxes between shifts, auto-lock creates waste when erected boxes go unused. For those workflows, snap lock or tuck-end closures give the packer control over when the base locks.
