Transport Assembly Versus Venue Assembly for Tiered Cakes 

Tiered cakes split into two distinct transport briefs, and the box for each is different. A cake assembled tier by tier before leaving the kitchen needs a single tall box that contains all tiers while protecting the top decoration, with enough internal clearance that the lid does not press on the highest point during loading into a vehicle. That box needs a rigid corrugated or high-GSM base board to carry the stacked weight of all tiers without flexing on an uneven road surface. 

A cake that travels as separate tiers and is assembled on-site at the venue needs individual tier boxes, each sized to that tier’s height and diameter, that stack efficiently in transit and allow the baker to extract each tier cleanly without disturbing the decoration. We confirm which assembly method you use and build the box or box set around that workflow, rather than applying a single tall box format to both scenarios. 

Base Board and Lateral Movement 

A cake moving inside a box during vehicle transport is not a box that is too big. It is a box without the right base board. A loose cake slides toward whichever side of the box the vehicle turns toward, which damages the icing at the point of contact. A drum board or greaseproof-lined cake board fixed to the base of the box holds the cake centred without the baker needing to tape it down. For heavier multi-tier builds, a corrugated base insert distributes the load across the full base panel rather than concentrating it at the contact point between the drum and the box. 

We specify base support based on the total weight of your cake and the typical distance and road type of your deliveries, since a 2km inner-city delivery and a 45-minute regional highway run impose very different lateral forces on the base. 

Window Placement on Cake Boxes 

A window on a cake box exists to show the decoration, which means its position needs to account for where the decoration actually sits on the finished product. A window centred on the lid face shows the top of the cake but misses the side decoration. A window on the front face shows the side inscription or floral placement but does not show the top. For many celebration cake designs the best window solution is an arched front-face panel that shows the side of the cake from mid-height upward, giving the viewer a clear sight line to both the inscription and the top edge. We advise on window position based on where your most important visual element sits on your typical products.
